When Kim interviewed me, she didn’t ask about morning pages or for copies of my work, instead she looked for my desire to tell my story. She looked for a willingness to put in the work. I loved that about her.

We meet weekly. This gives me time to write short vignettes and receive feedback in chunks I can handle. At first, her feedback consisted of teaching me basic writing concepts. Be aware of real estate, don’t waste it. Use active voice. Small words work. This needs a transition. As my writing got better, her guidance became deeper. She always meets me where I am.

Kim is straightforward and honest in her review of my work. When the writing is bad, she says so. When it is good, she says so. Her way of offering guidance always comes with encouragement. This instills me with confidence that If I follow her guidance, I will get better. And I do.

In the months I have worked with Kim, I have learned so much. First, I was surprised at how hard writing well can be. Now, I’m surprised by how rewarding it feels when I’ve written good bones.

I am so, so happy the universe connected me with Kim. My dream was to write a memoir. My goal is to finish the book this year. With Kim as my secret weapon, I know this will be accomplished. Without her, I would still be using -ing words in every paragraph.
