My writing

I’m a writer with more than two decades of professional experience, including 12 years as a reporter for The Associated Press.
Over the course of my career, I’ve covered everything from breaking crime news in South Carolina and Northern California to frontline dispatches as an embedded reporter in Iraq. My work has also taken me to Mexico, where I freelanced for the AP writing arts and culture stories. I’m also the author of Hit: A Memoir of Blue Collars, Bars, and Bad Boys, a personal account of surviving domestic violence.
My published work includes hard news, feature stories, and profiles of writers and musicians. Alongside reporting, I’ve served as a writing coach and editor—helping others shape their stories with clarity, voice, and impact.
Whether you're polishing a manuscript or trying to find your way into a story, I offer the insight of a journalist and the sensitivity of someone who understands how personal the writing process can be.
